Scripture: Exodus 8:20–32
Speaker: Pastor Paul

The fourth plague upon Egypt marks a pivotal turning point in the Exodus narrative. For the first time, God explicitly establishes a clear division between His people dwelling in Goshen and the Egyptians under judgment. While swarms of flies devastate Egypt, the land of Israel remains completely untouched—a striking display of God’s precise power and sovereign grace.

God could have removed Israel from Egypt before unleashing His judgments, but He chose to give them a front-row seat to His mighty power. Seeing God’s terrifying wrath against sin gave Israel a clear understanding of who they were called to worship, teaching them a holy fear that drives believers to cling tightly to the Savior.

This message traces key truths from Exodus 8:

  • Sovereign Distinction: God displays His precise power by protecting His covenant people while bringing judgment upon Egypt.
  • Preservation from Wrath: While believers are not exempt from earthly suffering, Christ bore the full, overwhelming wrath of God on the cross so that those in Him are spared from ultimate judgment.
  • The Folly of Bargaining: As Pharaoh attempts to negotiate terms of worship and partial obedience, we are reminded that God does not make deals with humanity.
  • Wholehearted Submission: Because we bring no leverage or merit to God, the only proper response to His sovereign grace is humble, complete surrender rather than selective obedience.

When we look upon the judgment we deserve and realize that Christ took that wrath in our place, our hearts are filled with overwhelming joy and gratitude. Salvation is entirely a work of God’s grace, calling us to bow before the sovereign King and give Him all the glory.
