The God Who Is Always at Work
One of the hardest parts of following Christ is trusting God’s plan and timing when it seems as though nothing is happening. Exodus 2 reminds us that God is never absent or inactive. Even when His work is quiet and difficult to see, He is faithfully shaping circumstances, preparing His people, and accomplishing His purposes.
In this chapter, God provides Israel’s future deliverer, prepares him for the work ahead, and remembers His covenant promises. Moses is preserved as an infant and brought into Pharaoh’s own household—the very house that sought the destruction of Hebrew children. What appears to be a series of unlikely circumstances is actually God’s sovereign plan unfolding.
Yet Moses is not ready to deliver Israel. After attempting to act in his own strength and timing, he flees Egypt and spends forty years in Midian. God uses those years to humble Moses, teach him patience, and prepare him to shepherd His people. Believing God’s promises also means trusting God’s timing and the means He chooses to accomplish them.
At the end of Exodus 2, Israel cries out under slavery. God hears, remembers, sees, and knows. He has not forgotten His people. The true Deliverer in Exodus is ultimately God Himself, and the redemption He accomplishes through Moses points forward to the greater redemption found in Jesus Christ.
