The God Who Preserves His People

Exodus begins in a dark place. Israel is living under the rule of Pharaoh, suffering oppression and facing increasingly severe attempts to destroy God’s covenant people. Yet beneath everything happening in Egypt, God remains completely faithful to His promises.

In this message from Exodus 1, Pastor Paul Whitfield shows how God preserves His people even when circumstances appear hopeless. Pharaoh may be the most powerful ruler of his world, but no king, nation, or opposition can stop God from accomplishing His purposes.

The chapter unfolds in three movements: God multiplies His people, preserves them through oppression, and preserves them from destruction. Even when God’s work is not spectacular or immediately visible, He is still faithfully working behind the scenes to accomplish what He has promised.

Pharaoh’s fear drives him to oppose God, while the Hebrew midwives fear God more than they fear Pharaoh. Their response reminds us that when God is rightly feared, every lesser fear finds its proper place.

Ultimately, Exodus points beyond Israel’s deliverance from Egypt to the greater redemption accomplished through Jesus Christ. God’s promises cannot be defeated, and His plan of redemption will stand.
